Like the South Rim the North Rim has many free activities courtesy of the North rim Ranger Programs and the National Park Service. For any activity in the Grand Canyon National Park the Rangers suggest preparation and safety first for all visitors. Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and plenty of water is recommended for all day trips in the Grand Canyon National Park.
North Rim Nature Walk
The North Rim Nature Walk Begins at the North Rim Visitor Center at 8:00 AM and lasts for approximately one hour. During this casual 1.5 mile walk, you will learn about the natural sustainment processes that take place in the aspen forests and ponderosa pines.
North Rim Grand Canyon
Geology Walk
The North Rim Grand Canyon Geology Walk takes place at 10:30 AM and last from 30 to 40 minutes. The walk leaves from the Grand Canyon Lodge and is wheel chair accessible until the optional walk to Bright Angle Point. During the walk a Ranger will answer questions regarding Grand Canyon Geology.
The Way Cool Canyon Activity
The Way Cool Canyon Activity takes place at the North Rim Campground Amphitheater and begins at 2:00 PM. A Ranger hosts games, activities and stories that relate to the North Rim environment. After this activity visitors may check out a Discovery Pack that the entire family will enjoy exploring.
North Rim Evening Programs
There are a number of activities that take place beginning at 8:30 PM and last from 30 to 45 minutes. Information about the specific activities is posted in the Grand Canyon Lodge for visitors to read. The activities take place in the auditorium at the Grand Canyon Lodge and typically explore science, scenery and cultural aspects of the Grand Canyon North Rim.
Other North Rim Ranger Programs
Depending on staffing, weather and other variables the National Park Service may be presenting additional programs. Among these will be information presentations regarding photography, nature, culture, geology and an evening walk.
During all activities children must be with an adult throughout the program. Families are encouraged to have their children participate in the Grand Canyon’s Junior Ranger Award. Ask any Ranger for a Junior Ranger Activity booklet to see the requirements. Outdoor Ranger programs may be canceled because of rain, snow and lightning storms.
